Pseudokick 1.3 © 1991-1996 by OR
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
INTRODUCTION
It's a Kickstart loader.
It allows you to boot your A500 or A500 Plus from your harddisk
into Kickstart R2.0-R3.1.
It's freeware.
REQUIREMENTS:
A500 or A500 Plus
A590 hard drive
2MB expansion memory
512KB chip memory
Kickstart image file
TESTED AT THESE SYSTEMS:
A500, KS1.3, 512KB chip / 512KB fast and 1MB chip memory via A501.
A500 Plus.
USER GUIDE
- It doesnt need to patch or reloc tables like other kickers.
The only needed thing is the ROM image of the Kickstart.
Dont use patched/relocated etc images.
You can obtain the image from the address $F80000-$1000000 (512KB).
While testing this utility, i tried KS1.3,3.0,3.1 (v40.68).
KS1.3 didnt support booting from harddisk and this version of Kickstart
is both obsolete and unreliable. Because the program is written
to load KS2.0+. KS3.1 didnt work. Because it was the
68020+ version taken from an A4000. If you have an image of
KS3.1 for A500 you can try it.
- The image file must be found in 'L:' directory named as 'kickfile'.
So as to run the program, you have to include the line;
Pseudokick
at the very beginning of your Startup-Sequence (exactly before the
command Setpatch). When you first power on your Amiga it will boot
using its own version of Kickstart first. This old Kickstart will
run the program since it is the very first thing to be executed in the
Startup-Sequence. Then, your computer will reset and boot using the
Kickstart image file in your L: . This new (strange, it might also
be an older one,...anyway lets not go deeper into this) Kickstart
will execute your Startup-Sequence. Pseudokick, when it's executed,
will first check whether the ROM is in RAM or not. If it finds a
version of Kickstart ROM in RAM, the program will exit. But if there
is something going wrong it will exit with an error code.
- If you see white lines during kicking, it means that Pseudokick
has found an error. After a soft-reset you can learn what happened
from the given guru message. Here are the messages that can
appear and their meaning:
80000002.000ACABA Internal error
80000004.000ACABA Expansion memory size less than 2MB
80000007.000ACABA Expansion memory not available
80000008.000ACABA Expansion memory not configurable
OTHER FEATURES
Prevents floppy drives clicks and sets retry count 1.
You can use "*" instead of AmigaDos wildcard chars "#?".
Important: If you use "*" alone it means the default window,
so that things change a little. Because of that you are adviced
to use double stars. For example use LIST ** instead of LIST *.
'Copy console: file' command writes the informatin taken from the console
to the specified file. For EOF press ctrl-backslash.
